New Democracy
Inspired by the crumbling ancient Greek Empire; the birthplace of democracy, this series of works investigates themes of fragility, disintegration & rebirth, analogous to the state of contemporary democracy.
Consisting of two phases, this first piece brings together experimental techniques such as; sublimation print, distressing, foiling, embroidery, beading & applique.
Process
Handwoven Artifact
In this second phase, the nature of decay is delicately expressed in open warp and tapestry techniques. Embellishment and a thin veil of plaster suggest structure and form reminiscent of a fallen Empire.
